An Interaction with First Singaporean Women to Climb K2

Hosted by the Pakistan High Commission, Singapore

Press Release

Pakistan High Commission Singapore hosted a reception today in honor of Ms. Vincere Zend & Ms. Sim Phei Sunn, the first Singaporean women to successfully summit K2, the world’s second-highest mountain. The event was attended by a cross-section of Singaporean society, media persons, and the Pakistani community.

The Singaporean climbers were extended a warm welcome by the High Commissioner and Pakistani Diaspora. An enthralling video of their ascension on one of the world’s most difficult peaks was screened to set the stage for the interview and Q&A. Ms. Sara Yahya, a young Pakistani student conducted the interview. The mountaineers shared firsthand accounts of their fascinating adventure and how challenging it had been as compared to the other peaks they had submitted earlier, including Mount Everest. They also narrated interesting anecdotes as how they trained in their island republic with tropical weather for an ascent on the most difficult terrain in incredibly unpredictable weather conditions. They also shared their heartwarming experience of traditional Pakistani warmth and hospitality. The audience had a candid discussion with the two guests and gained insights into the world of mountaineering.

Recognizing their extraordinary feat, the High Commissioner Ms. Rukhsana Afzaal commended Ms. Vincere Zend & Ms. Sim Phei Sunn for their courage and perseverance. In her remarks, she highlighted Pakistan’s tourism potential, from adventure tourism to culture, faith, culinary, and architectural tourism.

In addition to celebrating the remarkable achievement of the Singaporean climbers, the event also served to bring the spotlight on Pakistan’s natural wonders and breathtaking landscapes. It also served as a platform to foster cultural exchange and strengthen bonds of friendship between Pakistan and Singapore.

The guests were served traditional Pakistani cuisine at the end.
