An MoU between National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), Pakistan and Institute of Technical Education-Education Services (ITEES), Singapore was signed today. The signing ceremony took place online via Zoom and was attended by Ms. Farah Hamid Khan, Federal Secretary for Education, Pakistan; Amb. Ong Keng Yong, High Commissioner of Singapore to Pakistan; Ms. Farhana Asif, Acting High Commissioner, Pakistan High Commission, Singapore; Syed Hassan Javed, Chairman NAVTTC and Mr. Bruce Poh, CEO of ITEES.
The MoU aims to promote Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) particularly in the areas of leadership development, staff capacity building, academic growth and quality assurance.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Farah Hamid Khan congratulated the two institutes and highlighted government’s emphasis on promoting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) towards socio-economic development in Pakistan. She noted that the MoU would lead to the capacity building and quality enhancement of TVET in Pakistan which would help bring it at par with the international standards.
Ambassador Ong Keng Yong noted that the signing ceremony marked the end of 2020 on a positive note for the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Singapore. He acknowledged that due emphasis on TVET has enabled Singapore to generate a highly skilled and internationally competitive manpower and under the MoU Pakistan could benefit from this experience in training its future workforce.
Ms. Farhana Asif highlighted that the MoU would pave way for improved quality and standardization in TVET which would be imperative for international recognition of Pakistani talent. Syed Hassan Javed and Mr. Bruce Poh emphasized upon the need for close coordination between NAVTTC and ITEES for benefitting from each other’s experience in TVET.
Pakistan High Commission, Singapore remained actively engaged with ITEES and NAVTTC for the finalization of the MoU. The signing of the MoU marks a significant step in the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Singapore.
