Pakistan’s Participation in Singapore FinTech Festival 2020

Pakistan Fintech Association (PFA) hosted Pakistan Chapter of the SingaporeFinTech Festival in Karachi on 9-10 December 2020, in collaboration with Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and Pakistan High Commission, Singapore. Eleven Pakistani FinTechs including Access Group, Credit Fix, Euronet, Keenu, NDC Tech, NIFT, One Load, Oraan, Paysys Labs, Rapid Compute and TPS participated in this two-day event digitally streamed at the hyperlocal channel of SFF, that cast talks and keynotes addresses by renowned speakers from government and industry, including Mr. Sopnendu Mohanty, Chief FinTech Officer, Monetary Authority of Singapore; Ms. Sima Kamil, Deputy Governor, State Bank of Pakistan, Mr. Shabahat Ali Shah, CEO, National IT Board; and Mr. Aalishaan Zaidi, Global Head, Digital Banking, Standard Chartered Bank.

The 5th edition of SFF this year was organized on a unique hybrid format combining a 24-hour online event platform with several physical events in FinTech hubs around the world. It was attended by more than 60,000 participants from 140 countries

Pakistan High Commission, Singapore has been actively engaged with Pakistan Fintech Association and Singapore Fintech Association to build upon last year’s successful participation of Pakistani contingent in 4th edition of Singapore Fintech Festival, under the brand name “StartKar”.

In her remarks, while highlighting Pakistan’s immense fintech potential, Ms. Farhana Asif, Acting High Commissioner, made a special reference to high tele-density and internet penetration, tech-savvy and entrepreneurial youth, facilitative role of State Bank of Pakistan, presence of a strong database system at NADRA and support from a sizable IT qualified Pakistani diaspora. She urged Singaporean companies to capitalize on limitless investment opportunities awaiting them in Pakistan. She expressed the hope that Pakistan’s FinTech sector will continue receiving valuable support of Monetary Authority of Singapore and Pakistan Fintech Association, for a more meaningful and substantial participation in the 6th edition of SFF next year.
